Eighty four cases with colorectal cancer treated at department of surgery Pusan Maryknoll Hospital, during 5 years from January 1983 to December 1987 were analysed retrospectively, with particular respect to the survival rate and factors
influencing the
prognosis after operation.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) The ratio between male and female was 2.11:1and age incidence was most prevalent in the 6th decade(33% of total case).
2) The location of the tumor was most frequent in rectum(41%), transverse colon(15%), right colon(23%), left colon(12%), sigmoid colon(8%).
3) The stages of the tumors were Dukes classification A in 20%, B in 14%, C in 48%, D in 13%.
4) The operative methods were radical resection in 74%, palliative op in 26% In radical resections, right hemicolectomy(41%), Miles op(25%). Ant. resection(17%), Left hemicolectomy (14%) In palliative operations, Palliative resection stage(9%),
Colostomy(91%)
5) Postoperative follow up rate was 92% and in radical resection group(62 cases), excluding 3 cases due to operative death, 59 cases were evaluated 1, 3, 5 years survival rate for radical operation group were 79%, 73%, 69%.
(a) According to sex, 5YSR for male was 70%, for female was 67%.
(b) According to age, 5YSR for more than 40 years old was 64%, for less than 40 years old was 85%.
(c) According to Dukes ciassification, 5YSR for Dukes A:83%, B:86%, c:58%, D:17%
(d) According to LN metastsis, 5YSR for LN metastasis(+): 77%, LN mtastasis(-):79%
(e) According to locations, 5YSR for rectum: 77%, sigmoid colon: 60%, left colon: 75%, right colon: 64%, transverse colon: 91%.
(f) According to operative methods, 5YSR for right hemicolectomy: 61%, left hemicolectomy: 67%, ant resection: 64%, Miles op: 67%.
